People See Things Differently
Recognize that people see things differently
Facilitator Tip #4:
Recognize that people see things differently
Because people have different backgrounds, experience, training and expertise they naturally see things differently. These diverse perspectives are advantageous for revealing an accurate analysis and finding creative solutions. The facilitator should expect different answers and disagreements comfortably by always appealing to what actually happened. When the investigation is focused on the details of what actually happened it naturally depersonalizes the incident. The root cause analysis unfolds based on the facts. The facilitator anticipates different points of view as a normal part of an investigation.
